Good nutrition is an important part of a child's overall health and well-being. Children are better prepared to learn, focus, and participate in school when they begin the day with a nutritious breakfast and have access to healthy meals throughout the day.
St. Joseph Catholic School follows the Diocese of Tucson Wellness Policy, which establishes nutrition standards for meals and foods provided in the school setting. The policy is modeled after the Arizona Department of Health Services Wellness Policy for Schools.
Our breakfast and lunch programs strive to provide nutritious, appealing meals that support the health and well-being of our students.
Provide meals that are lower in added sugars and unhealthy fats.
Include a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Offer nutritious meals that are appealing to students.
Encourage healthy food choices at school and at home.
Promote lifelong healthy eating habits.
We ask families to help us support our wellness goals by choosing nutritious foods for classroom celebrations and student lunches.
For classroom parties, we encourage families to choose healthy and fun options such as:
Fresh fruits
Vegetables
Cheese
Other nutritious snacks
When packing a lunch from home, we encourage families to focus on balanced, nutritious foods and to avoid sending soda or candy.
Together, we can help our students develop healthy habits that support their learning, growth, and well-being.
